Global Technology Group announces the launch
of its Wireless Broadband Access (4G/LTE) at the
5th Myanmar Connect 2017
Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, 22 September 2017 – Global Technology, the leading telecommunications service provider in Myanmar, announced the launch date of its Wireless Broadband Access - 4G/LTE services at the fifth annual Myanmar Connect 2017.
The slated launch date has been planned for April 2018. The roll out of the new service will see improved internet connectivity in over 30 cities including Nay Pyi Taw, Bago, Mon, Magway, Kayin and Tanintaryi regions.
Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Prasert Laosaengpha said at Myanmar Connect 2017, “Global Technology Group is at the forefront of Myanmar’s internet providers since 2002, even before the opening up of Myanmar’s telecoms sector in 2013. The launch of our Wireless Broadband Access - 4G / LTE services will give Myanmar internet users better access to affordable, universal, quality and reliable connectivity.”
Global Technology also announced that they will be providing OTT (Over-The-Top) platforms as an added value to customers. “Myanmar’s youth are becoming more tech savvy and we are expecting a change in the way media is consumed. As streaming becomes more popular, so does the demand for broadband services, like ours,” said Mr. Prasert.
The announcement was made at Myanmar Connect 2017, an annual event for the country’s telecoms community. The two-day event was held on 19 – 20 September at MICC2 in Nay Pyi Taw. The event is in its fifth year and saw over 450 industry experts from 12 countries.
U Soe Thein, Director General of Posts and Telecommunications Department (PTD) officially opened the conference on behalf of Ministry of Transport and Communications. In his opening speech, he touched upon the tremendous growth seen in the telecom sector since 2014 after the liberalization of the sector and introducing of the competition from the private sector.
In his speech U Soe Thein said, “… Myanmar has seen one of the largest share of all foreign investments in Telecom sector, 7% in the year 2016 – 2017… Myanmar GDP has also increased to 8.7% over 2014 and 2015 ... This statistic provides us the confidence that we are heading in the right direction. However, we need to do more to ensure that the full benefit of the telecom sector can fully be experienced by the people, government organizations and businesses.”
